Victorian Brass Anemometer

SKU: 3095 Category:

Antique air meter, wind gauge or anemometer by makers J.H Steward, 406 The Strand, London. It comes with original wooden case and attachment for a tripod. It appears to be in working order as all the dials turn when directed into the wind, I won’t claim to know anything about them but absolutely love it, fine scientific crossed with Steampunk.

James Henry Steward (1817–1896) established J.H. Steward in London in 1852. The company produced a large range of items for military use. They were so well thought of with their work to such a standard that they were opticians to ‘The British & Foreign Governments, the National Rifle Associations of England, India, Canada & the Colonies and the National Artillery Association. They traded at 406 The Strand from 1856 thru to 1971. Box measures 11 x 9.5 x 9.5cms.
