Anna Mayerson was born and brought up in Vienna. She studied fine art at the Vienna Academy but emigrated from Austria and moved to England in 1938 to avoid persecution. On her arrival in London she studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. This is a portrait painted in the 1960’s. Measures 94 x 53 cms and signed by the artist. Painted in oil on an old crate so quite a heavy sturdy painting. Some age related marks as expected.
In 1946 she took part in an exhibition with Graham Sutherland and Jankel Adler at the Redfern Gallery followed by an exhibition at the Hanover Gallery in 1948. Between 1949 and 1959 she lived in Taormina, Sicily resulting in further exhibitions throughout Europe and after her return to London, a solo show at Annely Juda Fine Art in 1972.
