Natural History Starfish Specimen

SKU: 3228 Category:

Highly decorative mounted Starfish. A wonderful piece of d├ęcor that captures all the rich texture and beauty of this aquatic creature. It is mounted on a metal rod with an old ceramic base. The Starfish will be removed from the rod for safe shipping. There are about 1,800 living species of starfish that occur in all the world’s oceans. Starfish possess a number of widely known characteristics, such as regeneration of their arms. Arms can be lost when a starfish comes in contact with a predator, or it may be amputated in order to hide or escape from one. Arms can take months to fully regenerate but incredibly, if the severed arm is not damaged, this too can heal itself and even regenerate – resulting in a genetically identical starfish. Pretty clever for something that has no brain or blood! We are lucky to have 2 Starfish for sale (see other items for the other one shown in the picture). Both are old study pieces rescued from school archives. This is the larger of the 2 and measures 35cms tall. (Price is for ONE only)
