Antique Gothic Church Lightning Conductor

SKU: 2877 Category:

Superb Gothic Copper Lightning Conductor salvaged from a Church Spire. It stands 43cms tall and left in original condition. As buildings became taller, these lightning rods were mounted on the highest point and intended to protect the structure from a lightning strike. If lightning hits the structure, it will preferentially strike the rod and be conducted to ground through a wire, instead of passing through the structure, where it could start a fire or cause electrocution. Hyde was the one to spot this curious item on a recent buying trip, he says he was drawn to it “Because of the juxtaposition of both the religious & scientific significance of the object”. After that speech, I wanted to keep it…what more can I say.
