First introduced in 13th century Venice by artisan glass blowers, these gazing balls were known as Butler’s Balls. The reflective globe would be placed in a Dining Room so that the Butler and servants of the house could survey the guests. They would know when they had finished eating and required a refill of fine wine without having to keep looking at them. This original Antique Gazing Ball has been superbly mounted on a bespoke wooden hand turned stand making it a wonderful sculptural antique, yet contemporary modern decoration. It has various signs of age to the mirrored glass but in fantastic condition given its age and use. A very beautiful piece, no-one will sneak up on you again. Height including stand is 51cms high and it is approx. 26cms wide. UK delivery only preferred on this item due to its delicate nature.
